Sandwich Double Axe-Handle Smash video availableIt is a smash using both hands locked together. All persons within a 10 foot radius should be removed as to prevent splatter. The double axe-handle smash can only be used when a gentleman's rule has been broken or to terminate one's membership. The smashed sandwich must then be eaten and cannot be replaced, as do all smashed sandwiches. The Double Axe-Handle Smash never expires and is transferable. The Double Axe-Handle Smash is the pinnacle achievement of the club. Since it is a planned event, it should always be documented with video or pictures. I.O.U.'s can be issued for these smashes if a sandwich is not available. These I.O.U.'s can be redeemed at the smasher's discretion and they never expire. *** Leif Hansen is owed a double axe-handle smash on Kurt Rein from a False Smash executed by Kurt on Leif's two pieces of bread. There was nothing in the middle, thus excluding it from sandwich status. Back to TopModificationThe sandwich must be altered from its natural state. Modifications to the sandwich must be obvious and should have no other purpose other than to prevent a smash. Foreign objects must be placed on top of the sandwich to constitute modification. Modifications can not be tampered with by other players. Only an act of God, such as wind or earthquakes can remove a modification. In the case of a sandwich cut in half, each piece must be modified. If the same object is covering both sides, that is OK. Tampering with another players modification would break the Gentleman's Rule and would then result in a free double axe-handle smash. *** A toothpick in a Club sandwich is not a modification. If you pulled the toothpick out and laid it on it's side, then it would be modified, as the tooth pick would have no practical purpose. Back to TopTable Service RestaurantA place where you have a waiter or waitress is considered a table service restaurant. If you order at the counter, then sit down and they bring you your food, a smash is still legal. If a server brings you a bill to your table after the food is delivered, it is then considered a table service restaurant. A smash in this environment would be a false smash and would result in a double axe-handle smash. You can play any where except table service restaurants. BBQ's, fast-food restaurants and at home are great places. Remember, the Sandwich Club is a Gentleman's game. An exception to this rule is where a person may be employed at a table service restaurant. In the case of an employee meal which was NOT served by a waiter or waitress, a smash then becomes permitable even though you are "in" a table service restaurant. Back to TopGentleman's RuleThis rule is to prevent the club from being ugly. It is open to interpretation. It mainly consists of playing the game in a civil manner. The game being gentlemanly by no way excludes women from being Sandwich Club members. The Gentleman's Rules are: 1. No food can get on the smashee. 2. No smashing in table service restaurants. 3. As in all sports, a Gentleman doesn't get mad when he lose's or get's smashed. This applies when you are the smashee. 4. A gentleman will wipe his hand when possible before a smash. 5. A gentleman will use fair tactics when attempting to get a new member. Example: Don't say, repeat after me, "What's the Sandwich Club?" Any Gentleman's rule being broken result in a free double axe-handle smash to be redeemable at any time.
Back to TopCatch PhraseThe catch phrase to join the club is exactly: "What's the sandwich club?" or "What is the sandwich club?" Any other words interrupting those words is unacceptable. It is considered un-gentlemanly to tell someone to say it. Just ask them if they are a member or if they want to join the sandwich club. It's usually the first thing they say. As the conversation progress and they don't say it. They will ask how to join, just tell them they need to ask the most basic questions. Also, another tool is this site. Just log onto the page and tell the person to come and check out the site. If they still don't say it, then they will be In the know, and that's OK too. Practice your techniques and the club will reach the 1,000 member goal. Check out the picture page to see a game of Hang-man that resulted in a new member. Back to TopIn the knowThose who know about the club and the rules but have not said the catch phrase. These people are waiting to smash in to become members. People in the know can not be smashed until they officially join. Back to TopSmash inA non-member may smash in to the club by smashing an existing member's sandwich. These people are considered in the know. This is the most desirable way to join the Sandwich Club. If you smash in, it will forever be noted on the members list as to how you got in. Back to Top
False Smash otherwise know as the Illegal SmashA smash on a non-member, non-sandwich or in a table service restaurant. If in the event a non-member is smashed, the non-member's sandwich shall be replaced and the smasher must offer his or her own sandwich up for a double axe-handle smash. The non-member will remain a non-member. Back to TopSmash OutThis is a highly frowned upon move to get out of the club. It is the ONLY way to get out of the club. Only one person is Sandwich Club history has done it. See it on the picture page. An existing member must offer up an un-eaten, un-modified sandwich to an existing member for a full unadulterated double axe-handle smash. All persons must clear the area as food is certain to fly. The smashee must then eat the entire sandwich. The smash out MUST BE DOCUMENTED with a picture or video. Back to TopSmasheeThe person on the receiving end of a smash. The person who got smashed. Back to TopSandwichIt must have something in the middle of two pieces of bread or bun product to constitute a sandwich. The pieces of bun or bread must be detached from each other, thus ruling out hotdogs and pitas. If it is list on the menu as a 'sandwich' then it is smashable. example - the Jack in the Box made Pannido or a Gyro Sandwich at Angelo's. Back to Top
